President Museveni says he is shocked by the death of Ms Norah Anek Oting, mother to LRA leader Joseph Kony’s but expresses regret that he won’t attend the burial in Gulu District.

“It is with great shock that I learnt of the death of Maama Norah Anek which occurred on 10 November, 2009,” President Museveni said.

He added that, “Due to unavoidable circumstances, I regret that I am unable to attend Norah’s burial.”

Ms Oting will be buried on Friday in Agwengtina village, Odek Sub-county in Gulu District.

The condolence message from State House says that Ms Oting who passed away at 11.00 p.m. at Mulago Hospital on Tuesday night, developed severe respiratory problems and has been surviving on Oxygen for five hours a day in the last three years, “ which has been quite stressful for her.  Apparently, the heart could not contain it any longer and she died of cardiac arrest.”

The statement says that the government began taking care of Kony mother and father in 1996.

“The Government of Uganda started taking care of late Mzee Obol Aluzi and his wife Maama Aneka Norah (the parents of Kony) in 1996, through my Secretary, Amelia Kyambadde. Unfortunately, Mzee Aluzi passed away in 2003,”

Ms Oting, has been living in the government built home in Mukono, about 40 kilometers from Kampala, with her daughter Betty Akidi and her son, Olanya Robert together with some of her grandchildren, since 1999.
