Kampala
The Congolese government has given a definite deadline for UPDF and Rwandan forces to leave their territory.
According to Xinhua news agency, Communication Minister Lambert Mende told reporters that Rwandan troops are set to leave on February 25 and Uganda and Sudanese forces will exit on February 28.
The Army and Defence Spokesperson, Maj. Felix Kulaigye, said Uganda is ready to leave the Congo as requested.
“We are not dying to stay in Congo,” said Maj.Kulayigye. “We think as of now the operation is more beneficial to the Congolese than Ugandans.”
Asked about the army’s next tactical move, Maj. Kulayigye said a planned meeting between President Museveni and his DRC counterpart Mr Joseph Kabila would determine the fate of “Operation Lightening Thunder.”
