FPA Members' Letters to the Editor Published

FPA members responded to the June 22, 2006 New Vision editorial "War in the north is not genocide" by submitting letters to the New Vision and The MonitorDr. Okot Nyormoi's article was published in the New Vision and Ms. Carolyn Edson's published in The Monitor. Both pieces were edited. In particular, Dr. Nyormoi's 7-paragraph letter was strategically reduced to 8 sentences; the heading of the published letter-- "Ochola has always spoken his mind." Ms. Edson's piece survived mostly intact. Following are the published and original full-text versions.

Lessons from USA on northern Uganda

The manner in which the USA government has handled the Katrina disaster in which thousands of people are feared to have been killed when a hurricane struck several states presents important lessons for Uganda, particularly in regard to the 19-year old tragedy in northern Uganda.

Firstly, President George Bush accepted responsibility after accusations emerged that the initial response by the Federal government was below average. He has now ordered an investigation.
